Changed the oil on the Twingo, now I have a low knocking noise. Also its somehow overfilled by about 5mm on the dipstick. I put in a litre less than the cars capacity and let it settle and thats the reading i got. Guna drain a little and go from there.

5mm on the dipstick? Why are you still using metric after being freed from the tyranny of the EU?

It’s okay. Nigel Farage can send him back to wherever he came from now.

Oh.
The north....

The North is excellent. Yes, the boys are still marching back from WWII, and we’re still reeling from the loss of the US colonies, but as backwards as we are, it’s a beautiful place to be. Excluding Middlesborough, of course. And maybe Sunderland.

I never hear anything positive about your Twingo

Maybe enough didn't drain when you did the change , best of luck!

You know you’re supposed to shut the engine off when changing the oil, right?

So it's basically like when I post about my Taurus?

I think all my positive energy is focused on the bmw at the moment.

Shit really?!

Seems that way. Managed to drain the excess and my gf tells me im imagining the knocking noise...

Believe it or not, it has been attempted. Engine running, one guy draining old oil while the other pours in new. I’m sure you can imagine how that played out.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 04:17 |

Thats an impressively terrible idea. Why would they even attempt that.

Not sure. But the longer I think about it the more brain cells I can feel dying.

Agreed. Also i think the knocking is actually the airbox bouncing off the valve cover. Need to check tomorrow but it was a pain to put back properly so its likely worked loose and the noise goes away above idle, whereas if it was some engine fault itd likely get louder.

Maybe im not spreading the twingo love enough. I still genuinely like driving it.

It’s okay. Honesty and venting are healthy things. I give a revisionist version of my vehicles, because Celica

Celica indeed. In all seriousness i think the knocking is the airbox bouncing about because it was a faff refitting it and i probably didnt do it right. The knocking stops above idle and sounds hollow so hopefully not engine catastrophe. Plus i only had to drain out a small amount of oil to bring it back to the max.

Lol hopefully that’s all it is!

It wasnt... However its fairly low pitched and doesnt sound metallic. Honestly might just be normal engine noise and im hypersensitive to it after servicing the car. I am a bit ocd with noises. Guna pop by the renault dealer to be safe.

Good idea. If they say it isn’t normal it might be worthwhile to try a different filter. I’ve had bad ones cause low oil pressure and noises right after an oil change, but it’s incredibly rare.

It was a non OEM filter so ill try that for sure. Might just pick one up while im at renault out of curiosity and peace of mind.

It may be coincidence but i just changed the oil filter to an OEM one and she sounds like normal again... Fair enough. The OEM filter was the same thread and seal as the aftermarket but it had a smaller depth so maybe they sold me the wrong one at eurocarparts. Either way shes back to normal and im happy.
